It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

I’m linking this post about another day in Utrecht with a blogging prompt I often participate in: Sepia Saturday.

Although these photos are not sepia, Sepia Saturday is all about following a photographic prompt and sharing history through the medium of photographs.

And this is history for me – my first really cold Christmas, and my first in Europe.

Here’s a collection of photos of Christmas things we’ve seen around Utrecht.

If you want to learn more about Sepia Saturday, you can click on this link and see how others have interpreted the theme.

Merry Christmas to my fellow Sepians and all my other readers!

Seen in the streets:
Children in a 'snow dome' - filled with little foam balls
Santa giving 'sleigh rides' through the streets
Carol singers trying to stay warm and dry - they did better at that than we did!
In our hotel:
Deck the Halls: All the hallways are decorated like this.
Christmas tree with 'presents'
- we haven't checked if they are real yet!
Much more comfy looking sleigh than santa had out in the streets.
And seen in shop and house windows:
A Christmas fairground in the window of someone's house!
This is just a small part of it!

  1. Somehow a cold Christmas always seems more 'real' than our hot ones, even though I can't see any snow in those pics - hope you get some, and that you have a very merry Christmas!

  2. What fun pictures. My favorite, I think, is that comfy-looking sleigh. I'd love to take a ride in one like that some day. The picture of the carolers reminds me of singing on a merry-go-round once, many long years ago. We weren't caroling. It was summer and we were on a teen church youth outing in a park with a carousel & we all hopped aboard to have a go-round. Someone started singing "Jacob's Ladder" & pretty soon we were all singing it & one by one we got off the animals we were riding & stood along the outer edge facing outward (holding onto poles for balance!) continuing to sing. A crowd gathered & we sang on, waving to everyone. It must have been quite a sight. Unfortunately, all too soon a voice came over a loudspeaker telling us to get back on our animals & that was the end of that. But it was a really neat experience while it lasted. Gosh, I haven't thought of that in years. Thanks for bringing back the memory! Happy Holidays to you & yours!!!

  3. I love your photos of Christmas in various places. Is the hallway in a church? I especially like the charming street views.

  5. Enjoy your cold European Christmas; ours looks like being wet and windy, Utrecht would look nice if it just only were white.

  6. I agree with Jo that cold always seems to intensify the Christmas spirit. I've celebrated the season in warm (though never hot climates) and it's been just fine, but cold and snow make it the best. Have a joyful holiday!

  9. Thank you Jackie for this glimpse into another Christmas. We too were in the cold (of London) for the first time in eight years, but were glad to feel the sun’s welcoming warmth yesterday on our return. All good wishes to you and yours for a wonderful 2014.
